Polish president's health is called into question
Classified Polnews
Warsaw, Poland July 4, 2006 On July 3, 2006 The President of Poland, Lech Kaczynski, caused the cancellation, at the last minute, of a meeting of the Weimar triangle which was made up of the countries Poland, Germany and France. The reason for the cancellation was that the President of Poland was sick. But the details of that sickness were not disclosed and they remain secret.
The cancellation and secrecy of this sickness have reverberated around the news and comment channels in Poland. Some people do not think that the President is really sick and that he used the excuse just to not attend the meeting. Others are concerned that he is really sick and that he is hiding a possible serious condition from the Polish people.
Spokesman for the President told journalists that he was at a private residence recovering from his illness. But when the journalists went to his residence they found that he was not there. At a later time they found that he was in hospital. But they could not get any details as to why he was in hospital.
People around the President maintained that his health condition is a private matter. Opposition politicians and a large portions of the general public think otherwise.
During the presidential election campaign, opposition candidate for the Civic Platform, Donald Tusk, took the time to get a special medical checkup and released the results of that medical checkup to the public. But Lech Kaczynski refused to get a medical checkup and refused to discuss his medical condition.
As it stands now there's a question as to whether Lech Kaczynski can perform the duties of President of Poland or whether Lech Kaczynski wants to perform the duties of the President of Poland. Until he releases the details of his medical condition, there will be many debates on this matter.
