Will Poland's President cancel meetings with President Bush?

A newspaper article in a small leftist and local German newspaper prompted Poland's president, Lech Kaczynski, to cancel a meeting of the Weimar Triangle which was to be attended by French President Chirac and German Chancellor Andrea Merkle. A high-profile American television show has now used the article published by that newspaper to ridicule both the Polish President and his Prime Minister Brother. Will the Polish President treat the American President just as he did the French President and German Chancellor?

The Polish President's reaction to an article, that really should have been ignored by someone in his position, has been getting more and more attention from the world press. Now that the Polish President has set his standard, will he change it when it comes to be applied to the United States or will he apply it only to Germany?Will the Polish government seek to prosecute the American television show host?Will the Polish government demand of the United States some indication of this position in regard to what the television show host said?

Will the Polish President, immediately prior to a meeting with President George W. Bush, get a stomachache and offer to send his Prime Minister? But since the Prime Minister was also subject to ridicule, will he cancel a meeting with the American President and offer to send a lesser personage in his place?

Will the Polish Government ignore the insults from America and only pursue anything that comes out of Germany?Or will the Polish government wake up and publicly announce that no charges will be pressed against the German newspaper and its journalists and that the country intends to put the matter aside?

Poland's reputation is going into the tank. Already Poland is viewed by people in the European Union as a country of troublemakers. It is now viewed, also, as a country run by amateurs.

The foreign press has seen the weakness and they sure to continue to ridicule Poland at every chance they get. It is a matter of economics. It sells newspapers and gets traffic to websites.

Poland has to start paying attention to public relations and has to start by acknowledging that in the long term it has to have good relationships with Germany and has to let the past be the past. And it has to remain in the past. What happened happened. It is time for Poland to look forward and to start doing something positive rather than complaining about the past.
