Warsaw, Poland July 5, 2006 Iran continues to work the world as it develops its missiles. The Europeans continue to fool themselves into believing that their offers to Iran are going to cause Iran to cease the development of its nuclear weapons program.
Do the Europeans really have any worries in this matter? Other than a likely increase in the price of oil should the Iranians decide to use their missiles, it is doubtful that the Europeans have any direct threat against them. So when it comes to being serious in the negotiations, one cannot expect much.
The Iranians know that they cannot do much with one or two missiles. Were they to launch them against Europe they might find that Europe would respond with a lot more power than the Iranians have. So they might be looking to use the missiles where they can have the most effect.
A launch against Israel would likely assure the destruction of Iran.
So it is likely that Iran would pick a smaller enemy whose destruction would have wide-ranging effects. And what better enemy than Saudi Arabia!
The Saudis are Sunnis. The Iranian government is Shia. All and they are mortal enemies.
A launch against Saudi Arabia would not only destroy the Saudi ruling family but would also hurt the United States and Europe by stopping oil flow to those regions. And a launch against Saudi Arabia would be rather safe in that Saudi Arabia would likely not be able to respond.
