The Polish president was to attend a meeting of the Weimar triangle on Monday. At that meeting were to be French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Merkle. At the last minute Polish President Kaczynski canceled a meeting claiming illness.
The details of President Kaczynski ' s illness are claimed to be a private matter by the President's staff. The location of where the President is recuperating was kept secret until Polish journalists found it.
Many Polish journalists are suspicious about the Polish president's claim of illness because in the past he has questioned the usefulness of the Weimar Triangle of grouping and because of his known lack of the best feelings towards Germany.
In a letter the former Ministers of Foreign Affairs said: "Calling off the summit meeting without giving a serious and credible reason shows disregard of our partners," "We see such conduct as damaging to the interests of Poland and Poles,"
There are also questions as to whether the Polish president is sulking in his presidential retreat because of criticism in the form of a satirical article printed by a German newspaper. Poland Condemns German Media Satire of its President
There is no information available publicly as to when the Polish president will come out of seclusion.
