Polish women abandon their children to emigrate to the United Kingdom for work

Warsaw Poland, July 31, 2006 Since Poland joined the European Union and the labor markets in the European Union have opened to Polish laborers there has been a mass migration of Polish people to countries such as the United Kingdom where the money that Polish people can earn and living conditions are much higher than in Poland. The drive to emigrate from Poland to the United Kingdom is so great that some Polish families are abandoning their children to Polish state operated orphanages.

This has been reported on Polish television and in the Polish press but has not gotten widespread attention outside Poland until this week when a British newspaper published a report on the state of Polish immigration to the United Kingdom.

In a separate report, that same newspaper discusses what is claimed to be a secret British government plan to handle the possible catastrophe that will occur if a large number of people continue to emigrate from Poland to the United Kingdom.

The complete articles printed by this newspaper are included in the links below.

Polish children dumped by parents heading for Britain - Hundreds of children, some younger than two, are being abandoned in Poland by parents chasing dreams of a new life in Britain, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

The terrible legacy of the mass migration encouraged by Tony Blair's open door to job-seekers from former Eastern bloc states joining the European Union can be disclosed for the first time today.

A Mail on Sunday investigation can reveal that parents are dumping children in Poland's state-run orphanages before heading to London.

Even more tragically, some youngsters have killed themselves after being left with elderly relatives - while others have turned to drugs and crime when they were abandoned by their migrant mothers and fathers.

Secret report warns of migration meltdown in Britain - A massive rise in immigration next year could trigger a devastating crisis in Britain's schools, housing and welfare services, according to a secret Government report leaked to The Mail on Sunday. The document reveals that every Government department has been ordered to draw up multi-million-pound emergency plans after being told public services face catastrophe as a result of the hundreds of thousands of Eastern Europeans pouring into Britain. Angloslavia - The government faces disaster if the courts, applying European law, conclude that all East European immigrants are eligible for the same benefits as United Kingdom subjects. A large influx will either force up taxes to pay for the extra services and benefits required, rewrite the rules to ensure that public services remain remain viable through radical reform, or do nothing.

One of her [Home Office Minister Joan Ryan] biggest fears is that the courts may force the Government to scrap its restrictions on East European immigrants applying for council houses or benefits. At present, they receive some benefits only if they register for work - which one in three don't do - and earn full benefit rights after they have worked for a year. Ms Ryan says: "The legal basis for this is precarious and there is a strong risk of a successful challenge. This is a concern."

Benefits will provide an additional incentive for immigration from Eastern Europe. The pressures that this will place on the welfare state may provide a force for accelerated reform, since the free market will provide services cheaply and more efficiently, if given free rein.

So far, the addition of cheap flights to Eastern Europe, the added mix of Slavic tongues to polyglot London and the chance to taste more beers from exotic climes, has proved an exciting experience. Let us give the same chance to Sofia and Bucharest.
