Polish Minister of Justice continues his program against drunk drivers

Warsaw, Poland June 28, 2006
The Polish Minister of Justice, Ziobro, has continued to press the courts and the prosecutors to have the cars of people found driving drunk on the road in Poland to be impounded possibly permanently removed from their ownership.
He does not have to have legislation passed by the Polish parliament because the legislation in place allows for the courts and prosecutors to do this. In is a matter of setting the policies and having the people go down this path.
The problem in Poland is a significant problem. For example it was reported that on the last weekend there were some 2400 drivers given citations for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Should the policies of the Polish Minister of Justice to go into place it would appear that a large number of drivers would be removed from the roads every weekend.
The question that remains is if the Polish drivers would get the picture and stop drinking and driving until they were caught and their car was taken from them. But since many people drive company cars in Poland, they may not really care because it would be the company that would lose its car.
Whatever the speculation is about what the affect will be, at least the attempt will be a step in the right direction and maybe the carnage on the Polish roads can be reduced.
