Has Poland's Jaroslaw Kaczynski ruined his political career
Warsaw, Poland - May 8, 2006 Last last week after the final agreement was made to form a coalition government that would give the Law and Justice Party the power to have a majority vote in the Polish parliament, former Polish Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki said that it was the beginning of the end of the political career of Law and Justice Party Leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski. Response to a poll published by Polish television station TVP 3 indicates that Prime Minister Mazowiecki may have been right in his prediction.
The Polish voters polled were asked a series of questions about Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, Law And Justice Party Leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski, Samoobrona party leader Andrzej Lepper, and League of Polish Families leader Roman Giertych. The questions covered a range of topics topics from trustworthiness to effectiveness.
Of the four people, League of Polish Families member leader Roman Giertych, faired the worst. He never received any response over 10% that was positive for him. For the most part, his responses were generally less than 5% positive.
On the other end of the spectrum, was Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz who received positive responses to questions that ranged from 48 percent to almost 70 percent. He outperformed the other three people in this group constantly and significantly.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski ' s positive ratings were 16% and less. Of most significance, it seems, is that Jaroslaw Kaczynski was considered be less effective than Andrzej Lepper.
While Jaroslaw Kaczynski has spent his time since he has been elected engaging in in political squabbles and launching investigations against people from former government administrations, Prime Minister Marcinkiewicz has made himself a very visible at public events. While Jaroslaw Kaczynski has been the bad guy, Prime Minister Marcinkiewicz has taken advantage of the situation and played the publicly visible good guy. He looks more to be a presidential candidate than a Prime Minister who has been trying to form a coalition against stiff opposition.
In a head-to-head election according to this poll, Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz would outpoll Jaroslaw Kaczynski handily.
If the new coalition government does well, Prime Minister Marcinkiewicz will take the credit. If the new coalition government does not do well, Jaroslaw Kaczynski will get the credit.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski seems to be in a no-win position with low that he can do to improve his ratings. It may be in fact at the hands of his political rope.
