The Law and Justice Party may remain a minority government party

Classified Polnews

Warsaw Poland - April 20, 2006 The ruling minority Polish government party, Law and Justice, has been attempting to put together a coalition by combining a collection of minority parties which parties have many different interests and goals. As of yesterday that attempt may have collapsed when the political party League of Polish Families LPR decided that it had certain conditions that must be met before it would go into coalition. The condition is that it has set are extreme and not likely to be accepted by the Law and Justice Party.

In order for the Law and Justice Party to be able to form a coalition with a majority of votes in the Polish parliament it must put together a combination of parties that include the Polish political parties Samoobrona, the Peasants' Party, and part of the League of Polish Families. Though Law and Justice Party went into negotiations with a splinter group of five people from the League of Polish Families. They took it upon themselves to negotiate the conditions for coalition with the Law and Justice Party.

After negotiating conditions, this splinter group presented them to the League of Polish Families membership for discussion and approval. The conditions were rejected and the Leader of the League of Polish Families, Roman Giertych, responded to the Law and Justice Party with a list of conditions of his own.

The Law and Justice Party does not need all the members of the League of Polish Families to join it in order to obtain a voting majority in the Polish parliament. They do, however, require a significant number of the members of the League of Polish Families. But in light of the vote of the membership of the legal Polish families in seems that the Law and Justice party may not be able to split enough members off the League of Polish families to get a majority voting situation in the Polish parliament.

At the same time the Peasants' Party is being very evasive in his approach to coalition discussions. There is still no definite indication that they will seriously consider forming a coalition with the Law and Justice Party which coalition includes the political party Samoobrona.

The political uncertainty has now continued for almost seven months is affecting the Polish populations opinion of the President of Poland and the Polish parliament. A recent CBOS poll showed a large drop in the of how current Alton popularity down to 49%. The number of people who are dissatisfied with the activities of the Polish parliament increased remarkably to 79%.

The Law and Justice Party has said that it wants to finalize a coalition by Friday. With the decision of the League of Polish families and the continued dancing by the Peasant's Party, achieving that goal currently looks not possible. And to some commentators, achieving a coalition at all may not be possible.
