Getting customers from Google
Have you heard of Big Daddy? Have you heard of Jagger 3? Do you know that these are major changes to the Google search engine? Do you know that these major changes to the Google search engine will affect you and your business?
Do you know that since last June Web Masters who are experts with the Google search engine have been making drastic changes to their websites that will affect your position in the search engines?
If you have a business on the Internet and are not familiar with the answers to the questions above, then the following information should be very important to you.
If you are going to be successful on the Internet you have to be in the search engines. Not only do you have to be in the search engines you have to be in the search engines results in a reasonable position. You must also have the search engines visit your website often to update their index so that when a visitor searches that visitor finds the appropriate page in your website.
It is basic to selling on the Internet that the more visitors you get to your website the more sales you will make. You have to be concerned about your position in the search engines.
If you are a new company it may take you as much as a year for some of the search engines to index your site. You cannot afford to let this happen.
Submitting your website to one or two search engines does not really help you. They may take months to index you, but more importantly, you miss being listed in hundreds of other search engines and directories.
The most effective way to be found by search engines is to have one or more links from what Google calls authority websites back to your website. When Google finds your website link in an authority site, not only does it index your site in the Google search engine but it also chooses to give you better search engine position . And so do hundreds of other search engines and directories.
It is appropriate to discuss some background information now.
Throughout the year 2005, and to date in 2006, the Google search engine has been going through upgrades to its search algorithm and to its infrastructure. These upgrades have created a great deal of turmoil within the search engine and for websites that depend on Google to provide relevant results to Google search engine users.
As Web Masters have been complaining on Web Master discussion forums, Google has continually been advising Web Masters that they should remember the importance of links from other websites back to theirs. Links to your website are critical for you to get a good position in the search engine.
When getting links you must be very careful about how you do it. Google will penalize you if you buy links in what they call a link farm. Google does not want you to get links in what they call a bad neighborhood. They want you to have links from relevant sites that they would consider to be good neighbors for your website.
If you have a website you should be very concerned about this. You should look to get links from what Google calls Authority sites. A link from an authority site will help your page rank in the search engine results.
The best way for a small site to get started is to exchange links with other sites that have the same topic theme. So if you are selling crystal, you should look to exchange links with other sites selling crystal. You should also look to exchange links with authority sites that have more general topics but because of their authority will improve your trust rank with Google and will improve your position in the search engine.
Exchanging links with an authority site gives you another advantage in that Google will return to your site more often and add any changes that you made to your website to the Google search engine. This is important because as you make changes to your website you want to be sure that your visitors can find them in the search engine. If people cannot find you in the search engine you will lose money.
Though we have concentrated in this discussion on Google, the same principles apply to all the other search engines.
