The threat of new Polish elections has been removed
Warsaw, Poland March 25, 2006 - Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the Polish political party Law and Justice, stated yesterday that unless elections are held this spring they will not be held until the year 2009.
Kaczynski has been embroiled in a battle with the members of his own quasi coalition partners who signed the stabilization pact and with all opposition parties in the Polish parliament concerning holding of new elections. Kaczynski has been using the threat of new elections as a major tool in his efforts to move the country in the direction that he wants to.
Removing this tool from his arsenal will make a significant change in the political battles that are sure to follow. Polish politics, to date, have been dominated by quarreling and bickering among not only the opposition parties but among parties which are supposed to be cooperating.
Andrzej Lepper, leader of the political party Samoobrona, still expects to go into a formal coalition with the Law and Justice party. According to Kaczynski, discussions of a coalition do not exist present time.
