Polish President Kaczynski Awards medal to General Jaruzelski

Warsaw, Poland March 29, 2006 - Because General Jaruzelski was exiled to Siberia during World War Two he is eligible for a medal as are so many other Polish people who met the same fate. President Kaczynski has signed a document authorizing the issuance of such a medal to General Jaruzelski.

But at the same time, the Polish political party Law and Justice, whose chairman is the president's twin brother, are considering stripping General Jaruzelski of his rank and of his retirement benefits because General Jaruzelski ordered martial law in Poland.

When questioned as to why the president had awarded a medal to General Jaruzelski, a spokesman for the president's office was clearly embarrassed. He said that the president probably did not know what he had signed. He continued by saying that there would be an investigation and someone would probably lose his job over the incident.

Does this mean that the president does not know what he is signing? What other documents will someday show up with the president's signature authorizing something that the president had no idea about authorizing?
