The Polish Government In Continuing Turmoil
Warsaw, Poland 19 March, 2006 - Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of the Polish political party Law and Justice, which party controls the minority government of Poland continues to keep the Polish government in turmoil. He has now announced then he intends to seek early elections before Pope Benedict visits Poland, which visit starts on May 25, 2006.
Approximately one month ago Kaczynski created a stabilization pact which was supposed to keep two minority political parties in-line and to keep the government stable. That has however to not happened. Polish politics have been dominated by squabbles, bickering, and threats. Kaczynski now says when people can't come to agreement in parliament, the issues should be decided by the citizens and now wants a vote by the electorate.
Kaczynski will submit a motion to parliament to have it dissolve itself but to have that motion passed, he needs the support of the minority political party Civic Platform. The law and Justice Party and the Civic Platform currently hold approximately equal support by the Polish public, according to recent public opinion polls.
As of the writing of this article, Civic Platform is not yet announced its official position regarding an early vote.
