Polish Government now attacks former president Alexander Kwasniewski
Warsaw, Poland March 23, 2006 The leader of the ruling Polish political party, Law and Justice, Jaroslaw Kaczynsk,i has said that he intends to destroy the system that ruled Poland during the last 17 years. His government has now taken the step of attacking the former President of Poland, Alexander Kwasniewski, who occupied the Presidential Palace for 10 years.
A right wing newspaper published an article claiming that it had documentation that showed that former president Alexander Kwasniewski, while he was Minister of Youth some 20 years ago, was responsible for the misuse of some 100 million zloty.
In short order the Minister of Justice, a member of the political party Law and Justice, announced that the Polish government would be putting a bill before the Sejm to investigate the activities of former President Kwasniewski some 20 years ago in order to see if some crime was committed.
As of the writing of this article is unknown if the Minister of Justice has seen the documents that are claimed to be in the possession of the right-wing newspaper. Some commentators are questioning the involvement of the PIS Government in having the article written in the right-wing newspaper as a pretext to form a commission to attack Former President Alexander Kwasniewski.
The current President of Poland, Lech Kaczynski, said that it was not possible to effectively rule Poland while the Government was constantly diverted my rows. He blamed the rows on the leading opposition party Civic Platform.
The Polish Government, in its efforts to destroy everything or the system that ruled Poland during the last 17 years, has been attacking many people and institutions. ( An interesting commentary on the number of enemies that have been made and who they are can be found at the Beetroot )
Attacking President Alexander Kwasniewski is an attack on a man who was at the forefront of the advance of Poland over the past 10 years. But the attack on this man only increases the level of chatter and bickering that has been dominating Polish politics since the election that brought the Law and Justice Party to power.
Since President Alexander Kwasniewski left office he has been quite and not involved publicly in Polish politics. He has now effectively been backed into a corner and you can expect that he will come out fighting. This move by the Law and Justice Party may bring Former President Alexander Kwasniewski back into politics.
In any case it seems that the Polish people are not happy with the constant stream of complaints and attacks coming out of the ruling coalition party Law and Justice. A poll run just yesterday shows a significant drop in the support for Law and Justice Party and a significant rise in support for the opposition party Civic Platform.
