Polish Government - All Threats And No Action?
The Kaczynski lead government of Poland has been accused of being a government of all threats and no action by Civic Platform Party member, Jan Rokita.
The latest threat that prompted his accusation came after Roman Giertych, Leader of the Polish political party, League of Polish Families, said that he did not see his party supporting the stabilization pact, the agreement that binds the ruling Kaczynski party and two other parties to some form of cooperation, beyond the year 2007.
Even though his comment has been seen by many as ridiculous, it did cause a stir. And it was enough of a stir to cause Jaroslaw Kaczynski to make another veiled threat about forcing new elections if Giertych and his LPR did not support him.
And not to be outdone, Ryzard Czarnecki, of the political party Samoobrona, also a member of the stabilization pact three parties, said that there were alternatives to the government run by Prime Minister Marcinkiewicz. One of those alternatives is a government of experts.
The Kaczynski clan has been using the threat of early elections against LPR and Samoobrona ever since their government came to power. The stabilization pact three have only seemed to agree when it comes to passing a populist money give away program that will solidify their support among the lower classes.
The news is dominated by either promoting these programs or finding a new problem and criticizing or threatening a new group or segment of society.
The media is routinely criticized and threatened. The Supreme Court has been insulted. The Supreme Lawyers council has been insulted. Doctors were threatened with mandatory service in the military if they did not sign contracts. The LPR and Samoobrona are publicly threatened with new elections if they do not heel to the command of PIS. And the list goes on.
The constant turmoil is consuming valuable time. Even the Polish President, Lech Kaczynski, recently said that there was a problem in implementing the policies that were promised during the election campaign.
The current scapegoat for the problems is the minority opposition party Civic Platform that has done little more than criticizes the ruling parties. How long this blame can be directed at them before Kaczynski decides to use the current Prime Minister as a scapegoat is anyone's guess.
