Poland’s War On The Media Continues
Chairman of Poland’s ruling government party, Jaroslaw Kaczynski has declared that there is no free media in Poland. He has decided that journalists all act in the interest of either their owners or political supporters.
Kaczynski is considering introduction of a new law that would prevent the firing of a journalist who did not have the same political views of his editor.
Kaczynski’s comments stunned the Polish media and a large part of the population. Jan Rokita of the opposition party Civic Platform described Kadczynski’s comments about the media as the most stupid of the year. And Rokita added, but one must remember that it is still early in the year.
Kaczynski has been dominating the media coverage. The Prime Minister shows up on the news almost as a peripheral government functionary and not the man who is supposed to be running the government.
If relations between the media and Kaczynski and the government continue to deteriorate only harm can come to the people of Poland.
