Kaczynski To Change The Constitution
Polish political party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski says that he will change the constitution to keep his election promises. And Kaczynski says that he will change it “incidentally” by passing a law rather than going through the process of changing the constitution. And he said that anyone who does not support him in this act is against him.
His pronouncement has taken legal scholars aback.
Kaczynski recently called the Supreme Court weak and cowardly for not hearing a case in which he had an interest. The Supreme Court denied the hearing because the case had been mooted by withdrawal of the law to be ruled upon. Even though the denial was a procedural requirement, Kaczynski called the Court weak and cowardly and refused to apologize for his remarks.
The Kaczynski government has also recently insulted the Supreme Lawyers Council with implied accusations of corruption. The government refused to apologize for those remarks.
It would appear than any law passed that would “incidentally” change the constitution would end up in front of the Constitutional Court. One can only guess how well that will be received by the Court.
